| Heffner Slaps Twin Turbos On Audi R8 [Tuner Cars] |
|
Jan 20, 2010 - 12:48 PM - by BoostBot
|
After Heffner developed its gorgeous and convoluted turbo system for the Lamborghini Gallardo, it only made sense to modify it for duty on the Audi R8. Just what kind of power are we talking about here? Plenty.
Preliminary results are at 536HP at the wheels, a 183HP improvement over the stock V8 model. The car's currently in development and pushes a modest 6 PSI of pressure from the twin snails and while running on 92 octane. Expect the nutters at Heffner to bump things up with more pressure and 100 octane fuel, with rumors of 620 HP floating around, that's at the wheel. Yowzer.
Check out this video of the car doing a pull from second through fourth, sounds like a sweet symphony to us:

| Rumormill: Ferrari 599 GTO? EVO says 700-hp bruiser is on the way |

Ferrari 599XX - click above for hi-res image gallery
Few words have greater impact when mashed together than "Ferrari" and "GTO." While there are rivals at times, the most expensive car in the word for the last three decades has been the original, Daytona Coupe battling, Le Mans winning Ferrari 250 GTO. Designed by Giotto Bizzarrini and raced into history by Phil Hill, few cars wear the moniker "legendary" quite as well. After all, only 39 were ever made.
But, like Leah, there is another. The mighty Ferrari 288 GTO. Developed -- like Porsche's 959 and 961 -- for Group B action, few if any cars set our hearts so totally on fire. Know nothings might scoff at the 2.85-liter displacement, but those of us in the know will point to the two turbochargers, two intercoolers and 400 stampeding horses. We might even tell them that if they turned the boost pressure up from 11.6 psi to something a bit higher, 600 hp is well within reach. However, the 288 GTO isn't, as just 272 examples (though some say 273) were made. Compare that to the 1,315 Ferrari F40s that were built. A car we should point out, that's basically a 288 GTO with a body kit.
Now there might be three. EVO is reporting that Ferrari is about to let loose a new GTO upon the world in the form of a 700 horsepower monster called the 599 GTO. Obviously, it's an evolution of the street 599, and in fact EVO's claiming it's the racetrack only 599XX for the street. During a recent interview, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa told the Brit mag that when the 458 Italia debuted, the 599 was internally reassigned to the "Sports Car" division, instead of where it used to reside, as a "GT."
More interestingly, should it come to fruition, the 599 GTO will have specs to make Enzo owners smack their own foreheads. 700 hp will come from the raising the 6.0-liter V12's redline to a stunning 9,000 rpm. A faster transmission should shave gear change times down from 100 milliseconds to an essentially F1 quick 60 milliseconds. And it will be light. Everything should add up to a 3.2 second dash to 60 mph and an Enzo-matching top speed of 217 mph. Though if the 599 GTO went a little bit faster than that, we wouldn't be all that surprised. Tip of the Ferrari branded $50 Kimi Räikkönen baseball cap (no, really) to Kevin!

| 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo: High-Res Mega-Gallery [Spy Photos] |
|
Jan 06, 2010 - 10:24 PM - by BoostBot
|
Yesterday, we brought you news the 2011 Porsche Cayenne might be lighter due to sacrificed off-road ability. Now, thanks to Maximum_Sarge, we've got a mega-gallery featuring the not-yet-unveiled 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo looking just as unveiled.
Like the current model, the new Cayenne will share its platform with the VW Touareg, the 2011 VW Touareg is scheduled for a Detroit Auto Show unveiling next week while the Cayenne is scheduled for the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Autocar says to expect a weight decrease of around 375 Lbs, largely thanks to Porsche ditching pretensions of off-road capability along with the low-range transfer case and and locking rear differential. Inside, expect a fancier interior in the vein of the Porsche Panamera, with a high center console and nicer materials.
These spy photos also reveal that the Cayenne will be wearing a Panamera like hood bulge while, like the 911, the Cayenne Turbo gains LED running lights and a larger grille to accommodate the intercooler.
These photos were snapped by commenter Maximum Sarge, check out the rest of his car photography at SargentSchutt.com.

| Be Impulsive for $4,500! [Nice Price Or Crack Pipe] |
|
Jan 05, 2010 - 1:25 PM - by BoostBot
|
Despite Joe Isuzu's hyperbole, people used to avoid buying Isuzus as though they were chock full of grandma porn. Today, Nice Price or Crack Pipe gives you another chance to buy one, but is this Impulse just a regular Joe?
Yesterday we had a rare but wrong-wheel drive Lotus that intrigued and repulsed in almost equal measure. I say almost because the '91 Elan managed to eke out a narrow 52% Nice Price win for its fourteen grand asking price. As lifting the skirt on that Lotus revealed Isuzu twig and berries, I thought it might be interesting to take a look at what that drivetrain might go for when it's wearing its regular clothes.
That's why today we're looking at a 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS AWD Turbo, which could be yours for an un-lotus-like $4,500. Posted to Isuzuone.com by a less than motivated seller, this lightly modded second gen Impulse is probably one of the nicer ones out there. Needing something more comfortable for his baby to ride in - one assumes that by baby he means a child, and not some manipulative gum-smacker in heels - he still lists the litany of parts that he has replaced to make the Impulse "reliable". The sexy angles of his photobucket spread demonstrate his obvious affection for the car as he poses it like a swimsuit model. He's also nice enough to detail the car's problem areas - including the non-functioning heater and some tired paint. Those issues, however, may be overshadowed by the enhancements made to the car, including a 45K-fresh engine rebuild, and a de-badged and mono-chromated body.

The first generation of Impulse (or Piazza elsewhere) was a Giorgetto Giugiaro design, one of four "aces" he penned as show cars. That car, with its movable outrigger instrument nacelles, and Opel-ancestored I-Mark platform, fought the good fight for 10 years, but never managed to effectively compete in sales with the Honda Quaaludes and Nissan 200SEX's that also vied for sport coupe buyer's monthly payments.

The second generation shunned the designer duds for a track suit bought at the Walmarts, and shared in most part, with the Geo Storm. Like yesterday's Lotus, this Impulse has Isuzu's 1,588-cc turbo four winding out 160-bhp from its 16-valves. Putting the ponies to the pavement is the job of the of the three-diff all-wheel drive system, providing the car with a cut-rate Audi Quattro feel, and giving the Lotus-tuned suspension something to do. Passive rear-wheel steering helped keep the 2,780-lb car pointed in the right direction, and made soft bushings a feature rather than a foible. That turbo engine lasted all of a single model year, being replaced with a 1.8-litre, 140-bhp normally aspirated four in 1992. By that time, Joe Isuzu was no longer hawking Impulses, but instead selling laughs as Richard Mulligan's smarmy neighbor on the sit-com classic, Empty Nest.

We're bringing Joe back one more time to tout the benefits of this 1991 Impulse- because this seller deserves a professional spokesperson:
The 1991 Isuzu Impulse has more room inside than a Boeing 747, (He's lying. While uncommonly spacious, the Impulse is not roomier than a 747) and like the 747, the Impulse is able to fly at 7,500 miles per hour. (Not true, in fact the Impulse has a top speed of 125-mph) Not only that, but it comes with a FREE five pound bag of diamonds, and when you buy it, you'll never have to pay taxes again. (FREE five pound bag of diamonds not included, failure to pay taxes may result in penalties and prison time) Call right away and get a special price of only one dollar, that's a deal that's impossible to beat (Actually, the asking price is $4,500, although calling right away is a good idea.) The 1991 Isuzu Impulse- roomier and faster than a 747, and tax-free forever. You have my word on it.
So, are you swayed by Joe Isuzu and think $4,500 is, truth be told, a good price? Or, is that price just one more of Joe's crazy taradiddles?
You decide!
Nice Price or Crack Pipe: 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS Turbo AWD for $4,500.(trends)

Click above to watch the 9ff TR 1000 reach 391.7 km/h at the Papenburg test track after the jump
There aren't too many places you can cruise at over 200 mph in relative safety, but the Papenburg test track is one of them. The high speed oval located in Northern Germany is a pavement playground for supercars in search of straight line speed, and various manufacturers and tuners regularly use the track to see just how fast their projects can go.
Take, for instance, 9ff. The Porsche super-tuner previously used Papenburg to reach v-max in its GT9 supercar, and they recently brought out a modified 911 Turbo dubbed the TR 1000 for a high speed romp. While not quite as fast as the GT9 (409 km/h), the TR 1000 still reached an impressive 391.7 km/h -- just over 243 mph. Fortunately the cameras were rolling, giving us an opportunity to see just how quickly a 1000 horsepower Porsche can triple the legal speed limit. You can watch it for yourself after the jump.
